Does Wio provide a cheque book? Yes. Wio’s Key Facts Statement, effective April 2026, says a cheque book is available on request for the AED current account. Wio does not issue cheque books for its USD, GBP or EUR current accounts. The bank is entirely digital, so the request and support journey is handled through Wio’s app and Wio Care rather than a branch.
That answer matters in Dubai because a cheque book is still useful even if you make almost every other payment by card or bank transfer. Landlords may ask for one or more post-dated rent cheques, and some residents want cheques for deposits or other formal payments. Wio’s cheque facility makes the digital bank more viable as a primary account than many newcomers assume—but you should arrange it before signing a tenancy, not on the day the first cheque is due.
This guide focuses only on Wio cheque books and rent-cheque practicalities. For plans, savings rates, cards, currencies and investing, read our broader Wio Personal review. If you are deciding between Standard, Plus and Salary, use our Wio plan comparison.

The official source is Wio’s Personal Key Facts Statement effective April 2026. It confirms both the AED-only restriction and Wio’s digital operating model. Wio is licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of the UAE.
Who can request a Wio cheque book?
The published requirement is an AED current account. Wio offers that account to individual UAE residents, with a unique account number and IBAN. Its Key Facts Statement does not say that cheque-book access is limited to one specific subscription plan, but issuance remains a bank service provided on request and may be subject to Wio’s checks, current terms and the live process in your app.
Do not assume that opening a USD, GBP or EUR account creates cheque-book access in that currency. Wio explicitly says it will not issue a cheque book for those accounts. A UAE rent cheque should therefore be written from the AED current account.
Do you need to transfer your salary to Wio?
Wio’s public Key Facts Statement does not describe salary transfer as a separate condition for the cheque-book facility. Salary transfer is relevant to the Salary Plan and its benefits, not the published definition of the AED cheque facility. However, Wio can still apply its onboarding, identity, compliance and service-eligibility checks.
If the cheque book is the deciding factor in moving your salary, verify availability in your own account before changing payroll instructions. For the wider implications, compare the best UAE banks for expats.
How to request a Wio cheque book
Wio describes itself as an entirely digital bank, and says the Wio Personal app is the principal channel for requesting products and using services. The exact menu label can change between app versions, so the safest procedure is:
- Make sure your AED current account is active and your Emirates ID, UAE mobile number, residential address and other profile details are current.
- Open the Wio Personal app and look under your AED current account, account services or product requests for the cheque-book option.
- Review the live fee, number of leaves, delivery address and any terms displayed before confirming.
- If the option is not visible, contact Wio Care through the official in-app channel, WhatsApp or 600 500 946. Wio’s Key Facts Statement states that this support is available 24/7.
- After delivery, follow any activation, acknowledgement or signature instructions provided by Wio before handing a cheque to another party.
Planning a tenancy? Do not promise a landlord a cheque count or contract-signing date until the cheque book is physically delivered and usable. A screenshot showing that you requested it is not a cheque.
How much does a Wio cheque book cost?
Wio’s April 2026 Key Facts Statement confirms the service but does not place a cheque-book price in the product summary. Instead, it directs customers to the applicable Fees and Charges. Because that price can change—and may depend on the live service request—the responsible answer is to check the amount shown in the app immediately before ordering.
You should also confirm four practical details:
- the initial and replacement cheque-book fee;
- the number of cheque leaves supplied;
- the delivery charge and estimated delivery window;
- fees for returned cheques, stop-payment instructions or other cheque services.
Do not confuse the cheque-book charge with your Wio plan fee. Under the same April 2026 statement, Standard has a monthly fee of AED 25 if its AED 3,000 average-balance condition is not met, while Plus has an AED 49 fee if its AED 35,000 condition is not met. Salary Plan eligibility and charging work differently. Those plan rules can change and are explained in our dedicated Wio Standard vs Plus vs Salary guide.
Can you use a Wio cheque book to rent an apartment in Dubai?
Yes. A cheque drawn on your Wio AED current account can be used as a rent cheque if the landlord or property manager accepts it. The fact that Wio has no branches does not by itself make the cheque unsuitable. What matters is that the cheque is valid, correctly completed and supported by sufficient cleared funds when presented.
Before signing, confirm these points in writing with the agent or landlord:
- the agreed annual rent;
- how many cheques are required;
- each cheque amount and date;
- the exact legal name of the payee;
- whether the first payment is due immediately or post-dated;
- whether a bank transfer is accepted instead for any instalment.
The cheque count changes cash flow, but it does not change the annual rent unless the parties negotiate a different price. Four cheques on AED 96,000 rent normally mean four AED 24,000 payments; one cheque means the full AED 96,000 must be available at once. Our average rent guide gives current planning benchmarks, while the Dubai renting guide covers deposits, agency commission, Ejari and the signing process.
Prepare the first payment separately from move-in costs
A cheque book does not solve the cash requirement. In addition to the first rent payment, you may need the security deposit, agency commission, Ejari-related charges, DEWA deposit and moving or furnishing costs. Use the number and dates of rent cheques to build a cash-flow calendar rather than dividing the annual rent by twelve and treating that as the only monthly housing cost.
How to write a UAE rent cheque correctly
Complete the cheque slowly and use the tenancy agreement or written payment schedule as your reference. A practical checklist is:
- Date: use the date agreed for that instalment. Check the day, month and year carefully.
- Payee: copy the landlord’s or authorised payee’s exact name from the verified instruction. Do not rely on a nickname.
- Amount in figures: write the dirham amount clearly and check the decimal section.
- Amount in words: make it match the figures exactly.
- Signature: use the signature registered with the bank.
- Cross out unused space: reduce the opportunity for later alteration.
- Record it: photograph or scan the completed cheque and note its number, amount, payee and presentation date.
Do not hand over a blank signed cheque. If any detail is wrong, avoid overwriting or correcting it casually; use a fresh cheque and retain or destroy the voided one securely. Ask Wio Care if you are uncertain about bank-specific completion rules.
How to avoid a returned Wio rent cheque
A post-dated cheque creates a future funding obligation. Set a reminder well before every due date and keep the money in the AED current account—not merely in another currency account, an investment or a Saving Space.
A robust routine is:
- add every cheque date and amount to your calendar as soon as the tenancy is signed;
- create a second reminder seven to ten days earlier;
- move the required amount into the AED current account early;
- leave a buffer for any other debits that could reduce the balance;
- confirm that an incoming transfer is cleared, not merely pending;
- do not assume a landlord will wait to present a cheque after its date.
Returned-cheque risk: Wio says it may charge fees for returned or dishonoured cheques. When a cheque is returned for insufficient funds, Wio reserves the right to close the relevant current account, collect unused cheque books and report the returned cheque to the Central Bank of the UAE, Al Etihad Credit Bureau or another competent authority, without prior notice.
The CBUAE Consumer Protection Standards also require banks offering cheque-book facilities to disclose relevant limits and the repercussions of returned cheques. Treat the live Wio disclosures and the tenancy contract as controlling documents.
What to do if a cheque or cheque book is lost
Contact Wio immediately through the official app or Wio Care. Provide the cheque number or range, account details, payee, amount and date if known. Ask what documentation Wio requires for a stop-payment or replacement request, and confirm the live fee before proceeding.
Do not assume that a stop-payment request cancels the underlying obligation. If the lost cheque was given to a landlord, notify the landlord or authorised manager promptly, agree on a documented replacement method and keep evidence of all communications. A tenancy payment remains due even if the physical cheque is missing.
Is Wio the best bank for rent cheques?
Wio can work well if you want an app-first current account and need only occasional cheques. Its main limitation is operational: there is no branch to visit when a request is unusual or time-sensitive. A traditional bank may feel safer if you expect frequent cheque services, cash deposits or face-to-face problem solving.
| Priority | Likely better fit |
|---|---|
| Digital account, multi-currency use and savings tools, with occasional rent cheques | Wio can be a strong fit |
| Branch access, cash handling and regular cheque administration | A traditional bank may be more practical |
| Need a cheque book immediately for a lease | Use the bank where a confirmed, usable cheque book is already available |
| Uncertain whether to make Wio your primary bank | Keep an established account until salary, direct debits and rent payments have moved successfully |

Frequently asked questions
Does Wio give a cheque book with every account?
Wio says a cheque book for the AED current account is available upon request. It is not described as an automatic item delivered with every new account, and no cheque book is issued for USD, GBP or EUR accounts.
Can I order a Wio cheque book before receiving my Emirates ID?
Wio’s current account is offered to individual UAE residents, and a service request depends on an active account and completed onboarding. Do not rely on receiving a cheque book before your resident-account setup and identity checks are complete.
Can I use a Wio cheque for Dubai rent?
Yes, provided it is drawn on the AED current account, the landlord accepts it, all details are correct and sufficient cleared funds are available when the cheque is presented.
How long does Wio cheque-book delivery take?
Wio’s public Key Facts Statement confirms availability but does not state a universal delivery time. Check the estimate shown in the app or ask Wio Care before committing to a lease-signing deadline.
How much is a Wio cheque book?
The April 2026 Key Facts Statement directs customers to the current Fees and Charges rather than stating a fixed amount in the summary. Review the live charge in the Wio Personal app before ordering.
Can Wio stop a post-dated rent cheque?
Contact Wio immediately for the bank’s current stop-payment procedure and eligibility. A stop instruction does not automatically remove your contractual duty to pay rent, so also deal directly and in writing with the landlord or authorised property manager.
What happens if a Wio cheque bounces?
Wio may charge a returned-cheque fee. Its Key Facts Statement also warns that insufficient-funds returns can lead to account closure, collection of unused cheque books and reporting to the CBUAE, Al Etihad Credit Bureau or another authority.
Should I open Wio only to get rent cheques?
Probably not without comparing the whole account. Consider plan costs, salary rules, cash access, support, savings, currencies and the timing of cheque-book delivery. A cheque book is one practical feature, not a complete reason to choose a bank.
