FAB One Account is First Abu Dhabi Bank’s everyday current account for UAE residents who want branch access, a cheque book, a debit card and app-based banking in one package. In 2026, salaried applicants generally need a monthly salary of at least AED 10,000. Non-salaried applicants can qualify with an initial deposit of AED 10,000.
This guide explains the eligibility rules, documents, fees, debit-card limits, rewards and practical trade-offs. It focuses specifically on FAB One. If you want a broader assessment of the bank, its savings products, customer experience and alternatives, read our full FAB review for expats.
Last checked: 25 September 2026. Product conditions can change, so confirm the final terms in the FAB app or Key Facts Statement before opening the account.

FAB One is not a zero-requirement starter account. Its advantage is that once you qualify, it combines a traditional current account with a useful debit card and removes the recurring minimum-balance fee that can catch new residents by surprise.
FAB One eligibility and salary requirement
The account is available to UAE residents. FAB publishes two routes:
- Salaried customers: a minimum monthly salary of AED 10,000.
- Non-salaried customers: a minimum initial deposit of AED 10,000.
The AED 10,000 salary threshold is an eligibility requirement, not necessarily an instruction to keep AED 10,000 in the account every day. FAB still performs its own onboarding, identity and compliance checks, and meeting the headline threshold does not guarantee acceptance.
New employees should also distinguish between gross salary, basic salary and the amount that actually reaches the account. If your employment contract shows AED 10,000 but deductions or irregular payments reduce the transfer, ask FAB which figure it uses for eligibility. The bank may request a salary certificate, payslip or recent bank statement.
If your salary is below AED 10,000, do not route money between accounts to imitate a salary transfer. A genuine payroll transfer normally carries information that allows the receiving bank to identify it. Instead, compare alternatives in our guide to the best banks in Dubai for expats, or ask whether the non-salaried deposit route fits your circumstances.
Does FAB One have a minimum balance?
FAB’s official FAB One page says there is no minimum-balance charge. This is one of the product’s clearest benefits.
There are actually three different AED 10,000 figures that people often mix up:
- AED 10,000 monthly salary for a salaried applicant to qualify.
- AED 10,000 initial deposit for a non-salaried applicant to qualify.
- AED 10,000 average monthly balance to begin earning the published balance-based FAB Rewards.
The third figure affects rewards, not the minimum-balance charge. You can hold less than AED 10,000 after opening without triggering a FAB One minimum-balance fee, but you would not earn balance rewards for a month in which the qualifying average is below that level.
Documents required and how to open the account
FAB lists the following core documents for residents:
- Original passport
- Valid UAE residence visa
- Valid Emirates ID
- Proof of income, such as a salary certificate, payslip or bank statement
The bank may ask for more information depending on your employment, nationality, tax residence, source of funds or application channel. Self-employed applicants may need company documents or stronger evidence of regular income and funds.
Application process
- Prepare your UAE documents. An Emirates ID application alone may not be enough for the normal resident product, so wait until you can provide the required identification unless FAB confirms otherwise.
- Apply through FAB Mobile or a branch. FAB promotes digital account opening through its app. A branch can be useful if your name, employment structure or documents require manual review.
- Complete identity and compliance checks. Expect questions about employment, tax residence, expected account activity and source of funds.
- Review the Key Facts Statement. Check the exact product name, debit-card type, fees and whether salary transfer is recorded as a continuing condition.
- Fund and activate the account. Follow FAB’s instructions for the initial deposit or salary transfer, then set card and transfer limits in the app.

Debit card, ATM access and lifestyle benefits
FAB One includes a complimentary Platinum Mastercard debit card. The official product page publishes a daily ATM cash limit of AED 20,000 and a daily retail purchase limit of AED 40,000. These are maximum product limits: your own settings, available balance, transaction monitoring and the ATM operator’s per-transaction limit may reduce what you can use at one time.
Cash withdrawals
Withdrawals at FAB ATMs are free. FAB One also includes four complimentary cash withdrawals each month from any ATM in the UAE. FAB’s July 2026 general tariff lists AED 2.10 for a withdrawal from another bank’s UAE ATM, AED 6.30 at a GCC ATM and AED 21 internationally. Confirm in the app how your four-withdrawal allowance is applied before using another bank’s machine repeatedly.
Overseas withdrawals can also involve foreign-exchange conversion and a fee charged by the ATM owner. The general debit-card tariff lists a 2.1% international transaction processing fee, plus applicable card-scheme charges. When an overseas ATM offers to convert the amount into dirhams, declining dynamic currency conversion often gives the card network the conversion instead, but you should compare the displayed terms before confirming.
Other published card benefits
- Purchase protection for eligible purchases for up to 90 days.
- Complimentary access to selected airport lounges in the Middle East, up to four visits per year, subject to Mastercard’s current programme and eligibility conditions.
- Card controls and service access through FAB Mobile.
Card-network benefits change more frequently than the current account itself. Check the Mastercard benefit portal and FAB’s current terms before relying on lounge access for a trip.
How FAB Rewards work on FAB One
FAB publishes two ways to earn:
- Spending rewards: 40 FAB Rewards for every AED 100 of eligible card spending.
- Balance rewards: 6 FAB Rewards for every AED 1,000 of average monthly balance.
Balance rewards start only when the average monthly balance is at least AED 10,000, and FAB caps this element at 80,000 FAB Rewards per month. “Average balance” is not the same as the amount visible on the last day of the month. It is generally based on the account balance over the entire calculation period.
For example, holding AED 20,000 as a qualifying average would produce 120 FAB Rewards from the balance formula before any cap or programme adjustment. Card spending would be calculated separately. That can be a welcome extra, but it should not be the main reason to keep a large cash balance if another account offers a better return.
Rewards values, redemption options and excluded transactions can change. Cash withdrawals, transfers and other cash-like transactions are normally different from eligible retail spending, so review the current FAB Rewards rules rather than assuming every dirham earns points.
FAB One fees you should know
The account has no opening fee and no FAB One minimum-balance charge, but it is not fee-free in every situation. The following figures come from FAB’s personal banking charges effective July 2026.

| Additional 25-leaf cheque book | AED 26.25 |
| Returned cheque drawn on your account | AED 105 |
| Stop-payment instruction | AED 52.50 |
| First debit card | Free |
| Replacement for lost or stolen debit card | AED 26.25 |
| FAB ATM withdrawal | Free |
| Other UAE bank ATM, standard tariff | AED 2.10; FAB One includes four complimentary UAE withdrawals monthly |
| GCC ATM withdrawal | AED 6.30 |
| International ATM withdrawal | AED 21, excluding possible operator and FX costs |
| International debit-card processing | 2.1% plus applicable card-scheme charges |
Cheque books are useful because Dubai landlords may still request post-dated rent cheques. Before signing a tenancy, make sure the cheque book will arrive in time and budget for the full housing cash requirement. Our average rent in Dubai guide explains typical rents and the upfront costs beyond the headline annual price.
What happens if your salary stops or you change jobs?
A job change does not automatically mean your account disappears. However, your profile may no longer match the salaried route under which FAB approved it. The practical outcome depends on the account agreement, the duration without salary, your new employer and whether you hold lending products with FAB.
Before your final salary payment:
- Download recent statements and keep proof of your new employment.
- Ask FAB whether your account remains FAB One during the gap.
- Check whether any salary-linked benefit or lending arrangement will change.
- Keep enough cash for standing orders, rent cheques and card payments.
- Update your employment and contact information promptly.
If you expect a long period without salary, ask whether you can remain under the non-salaried route or whether another account is more appropriate. Do not wait until a cheque or direct debit fails.

FAB One alternatives
No bank is best for every resident. Compare FAB One with the account that matches how you actually get paid, use cash and move money.
Emirates NBD
Emirates NBD’s standard current account has a lower published salary threshold and a large branch and ATM network. It may be more accessible if you earn below AED 10,000. Our FAB vs Emirates NBD comparison covers salary requirements, branches, digital banking, cards and day-to-day fees.
Wio Personal
Wio is attractive for app-first banking, multicurrency tools and plan-based benefits, but it is a different proposition from FAB’s branch-led universal banking model. Read Wio vs FAB if you are deciding between a digital-first account and a traditional bank.
Dubai Islamic Bank
DIB is a natural comparison for customers seeking Sharia-compliant everyday banking. Its salary packages, fees and rewards work differently, so compare the actual account conditions rather than the bank names alone. See Dubai Islamic Bank vs FAB.
Also consider the size and timing of your relocation expenses. A no-minimum-balance account can help, but rent, deposits, furniture and transport will dominate the first-month budget. Our Dubai cost-of-living guide for a single person provides a fuller planning baseline.

Is FAB One better than Wio?

Wio may suit people who prefer a digital-first experience and its plan features. The better choice depends on salary, cash use, international spending and need for branch support.
Our verdict
FAB One is a solid current account for UAE residents who comfortably meet the AED 10,000 entry requirement. Its main strengths are the absence of a minimum-balance charge, traditional banking access, a complimentary Platinum debit card, cheque-book availability and four monthly withdrawals from other UAE ATMs.
The account is less compelling if your salary is below the threshold, if you rely heavily on overseas cash withdrawals, or if you keep large balances mainly to earn rewards. Compare the total package—not just the account-opening fee—and keep a copy of the product conditions supplied during onboarding.
