Wio Cash Withdrawal Limit 2026: ATM Fees and Limits

The Wio cash withdrawal limit is AED 20,000 per day, or the equivalent in foreign currency, under Wio Personal’s Key Facts Statement effective April 2026. Your actual withdrawal can still be lower because of the limit you set on the card, the cash available in your account, and the per-transaction cap imposed by the ATM operator.

This guide answers the practical questions that are easy to miss in a general bank review: how much cash you can withdraw, why an ATM may refuse a smaller amount, how card controls interact with the published ceiling, what happens abroad, and how to withdraw a large sum safely.

It does not repeat our full Wio Personal review, which covers plans, savings, currencies and the wider banking experience. Here, the focus is strictly ATM access and cash.

Wio cash withdrawal limit: quick answer

Question 2026 answer
Published daily cash withdrawal limit AED 20,000, or the equivalent in foreign currency
Does the limit apply to one withdrawal? No. It is a daily ceiling; an individual ATM may impose a lower per-transaction limit
Can the customer set a lower limit? Yes. Wio cards include customisable ATM cash-withdrawal controls in the app
Can Wio cards be used abroad? Yes. The Key Facts Statement says the card supports cash withdrawals worldwide, subject to card, network and local ATM rules
Do ATM withdrawals earn cashback? No. Wio expressly excludes ATM withdrawals from cashback
Does Wio have branches? No. Wio describes itself as an entirely digital bank

The key distinction is between a bank-level maximum and what you can take from a particular machine. AED 20,000 is the maximum stated for the Wio Personal card in a day. It does not promise that every ATM will dispense AED 20,000 in one transaction—or even over several transactions.

How the AED 20,000 daily limit works

Wio’s April 2026 Key Facts Statement lists two separate figures for the Wio Personal card:

  • Daily cash withdrawal limit: AED 20,000, or the equivalent in foreign currency.
  • Total daily card transaction limit: AED 200,000 or the limit set on the card, whichever is lower.

These are not interchangeable. The larger AED 200,000 figure is a total card-transaction ceiling, not permission to take AED 200,000 from an ATM. Cash remains subject to the AED 20,000 daily withdrawal limit.

The three limits that matter

In practice, your successful withdrawal is controlled by the lowest applicable limit:

  1. Wio’s published daily cash ceiling. This is AED 20,000 under the current KFS.
  2. Your own card setting. Wio allows customised ATM withdrawal controls. If you set AED 1,000, a larger attempt can be declined even though the bank’s maximum is higher.
  3. The ATM operator’s limit. The machine may restrict each transaction because of its own policy, available banknote denominations or cash inventory.

Your available current-account balance is a fourth practical constraint. Money placed in a Saving Space is separated from everyday card use under Wio’s product structure. Move the required amount back to the current account before attempting the withdrawal, and leave enough balance for any disclosed charge.

Example: taking out AED 8,000

Suppose your Wio card’s ATM control is set to AED 10,000, your current account contains AED 12,000, and the ATM permits only AED 5,000 per transaction. You may need two transactions—AED 5,000 and AED 3,000. Both count toward the same daily Wio cash limit.

If the first machine refuses the second transaction, do not assume your Wio account is blocked. The machine may have its own transaction-frequency or cash-availability restriction. Check the app, then use a reputable alternative ATM if necessary.

How to check or change your Wio ATM withdrawal limit

Wio’s official KFS confirms that each card has customisable limits and security settings, including ATM cash withdrawals, online transactions and international payments. Exact screen labels can change as the app is updated, so treat the following as the workflow rather than a permanent menu map:

  1. Open the official Wio Personal app.
  2. Select the physical card you plan to use.
  3. Open the card controls or limits section.
  4. Make sure ATM cash withdrawals are enabled.
  5. Review the customer-set withdrawal limit.
  6. If needed, choose a higher temporary limit without exceeding the available option.
  7. Confirm the change using the app’s security step.
  8. After withdrawing, reduce the limit again if you do not regularly need cash.

A lower everyday limit is sensible. The AED 20,000 bank ceiling is not a target. If you normally withdraw AED 500, leaving a much larger limit permanently enabled increases the potential loss if the card and PIN are compromised.

Wio ATM fees and possible extra costs

A withdrawal limit and a withdrawal fee answer different questions. The KFS clearly publishes the AED 20,000 daily ceiling, but Wio directs customers to its live pricing information for fees and charges. Before confirming an ATM transaction, review the current pricing shown in the app and the message displayed by the ATM.

There are up to three cost layers:

  • Any Wio charge: check the current Wio Personal pricing for your plan and transaction.
  • ATM-owner charge: an operator, especially outside the UAE, may add its own fee. This is separate from Wio and should be shown before confirmation.
  • Currency conversion: when withdrawing abroad, the account and currency used for settlement affect the final AED cost.

Do not count on cashback to offset any of these costs. Wio’s official KFS specifically says ATM withdrawals are ineligible for cashback. Cash-like transactions and money transfers are also excluded.

Avoid dynamic currency conversion

An overseas ATM may offer to convert the withdrawal into AED. This is called dynamic currency conversion. The convenient-looking AED amount can include the operator’s exchange rate or markup. In most cases, choosing the local currency lets your bank and card network perform the conversion instead. Read both options carefully; never accept a conversion just because the ATM highlights it.

Wio says its card can spend directly from supported foreign-currency accounts when sufficient matching funds are available. The KFS example concerns purchases, so do not assume an overseas cash withdrawal will route identically without checking the app and transaction screen.

Why a Wio cash withdrawal may be declined

A decline does not necessarily mean that you have reached AED 20,000. Work through the following checks:

  1. ATM withdrawals are disabled. Turn the control on for the selected physical card.
  2. Your custom limit is too low. The customer-set amount can be lower than Wio’s maximum.
  3. Insufficient usable balance. Confirm that the money is in the current account, not only in a Saving Space or investment.
  4. The daily allowance is partly used. Earlier withdrawals count toward the same daily ceiling.
  5. The ATM has a lower cap. Try a smaller amount or another reputable bank’s machine.
  6. The ATM lacks the required notes. A different denomination or amount may work.
  7. The card is frozen or restricted. Check card status, international controls and app notifications.
  8. The transaction triggered a security review. A large or unusual request may require support.
  9. There is a network problem. The card, ATM operator or payment network may be temporarily unavailable.

If an ATM retains your card, record the operator, location and time, then freeze the card immediately in the app. Wio’s KFS instructs customers to freeze a lost or stolen card and contact Wio Care on 600 500 946. Do not rely on a stranger offering help beside the machine.

How to withdraw a large amount with Wio

Wio is an entirely digital bank with no branches, so a large cash requirement needs more planning than it would at a bank where you could request a teller withdrawal.

Before going to the ATM

  • Confirm the current balance and move money from Saving Spaces if required.
  • Check the physical card’s ATM control and daily limit.
  • Use an ATM inside a bank, mall or other monitored location.
  • Prefer daytime and avoid carrying cash farther than necessary.
  • Check whether the payee can accept a bank transfer instead.

For a payment approaching AED 20,000, a transfer is often safer and easier to document. Wio’s transfer limits are separate and can be substantially higher depending on the plan, but the recipient details, transaction purpose and fraud risk still need careful verification. Bank transfers generally cannot be reversed simply because the sender made a mistake or later disputed the purchase.

If you need cash frequently—for example, for a cash-heavy small business or repeated large purchases—Wio may be better as a savings or spending account alongside a traditional bank. Using the Wio card at an ATM abroad

The Wio Personal KFS states that the Mastercard can be used for cash withdrawals worldwide. That does not guarantee acceptance by every ATM. Availability depends on the card network, the machine, local rules, Wio’s security controls and your account status.

Before travelling:

  • Make sure international transactions and ATM withdrawals are enabled.
  • Review your cash limit and the current pricing in the app.
  • Carry a second card from a different bank or network.
  • Keep Wio Care contact details accessible without relying on the Wio card itself.
  • Use bank-operated ATMs and inspect the machine for tampering.
  • Decline any unclear optional conversion or surcharge.

A backup matters because Wio has no branch counter to visit. Even a legitimate security block or mobile-network problem can be disruptive when you are abroad. ATM security checklist for Wio customers

  • Use a physical card only at reputable, well-lit ATMs.
  • Shield the keypad and refuse assistance from strangers.
  • Check the amount, currency, operator fee and conversion choice before confirming.
  • Never share the PIN, one-time password or app passcode.
  • Keep the ATM limit low when you are not withdrawing cash.
  • Enable notifications and review the balance immediately after the transaction.
  • If cash is not dispensed but the account is debited, record the ATM ID, amount and time, then contact support.
  • Freeze the card at once if it is lost, retained or used without permission.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Wio cash withdrawal limit per day?

The Wio Personal Key Facts Statement effective April 2026 lists a daily cash withdrawal limit of AED 20,000, or the equivalent amount in foreign currency.

Can I withdraw AED 20,000 in one ATM transaction?

Not necessarily. AED 20,000 is Wio’s published daily ceiling. The ATM operator may impose a lower amount per transaction, and your customer-set limit may also be lower. Several withdrawals may be required, subject to operator and security rules.

Why can I withdraw only AED 1,000 or AED 5,000?

Check your card control in the Wio app, the available current-account balance and the ATM’s own cap. The machine’s maximum can be far below Wio’s daily allowance.

Do Wio ATM withdrawals earn cashback?

No. Wio’s KFS explicitly excludes ATM withdrawals from cashback, along with specified cash-like transactions and money transfers.

Can I withdraw from a Wio Saving Space?

The card uses money available for everyday spending. Transfer the required amount from the Saving Space to the current account first. A Fixed Saving Space has separate early-withdrawal rules and may involve reduced interest or a penalty.

Can I use Wio at any ATM in the UAE?

The Mastercard is designed for cash withdrawals, but no bank can guarantee every machine will accept every card at all times. Use a reputable bank-operated ATM and check any fee or error message before trying again.

Can I use a Wio card to withdraw cash abroad?

Yes. Wio says the card supports withdrawals worldwide, subject to the local ATM, card network, account balance, security controls and applicable costs.

Does the AED 20,000 limit include card purchases?

Cash withdrawals have their own AED 20,000 daily ceiling. Wio separately lists a total daily card-transaction limit of AED 200,000 or the lower limit selected by the customer.

What should I do if the ATM debits me but gives no cash?

Keep or photograph the receipt and record the ATM owner, location, terminal ID, time and amount. Check whether the transaction is pending, then contact Wio Care promptly. Do not repeatedly retry a large withdrawal while the first transaction is unresolved.

Bottom line

The published Wio cash withdrawal limit is generous at AED 20,000 per day, but that number is only the outer bank limit. The amount you can take immediately depends on your card setting, current-account balance and the ATM operator’s rules.

For routine use, keep a lower limit and raise it only when necessary. For a large payment, compare the safety and audit trail of a bank transfer with carrying cash. And if regular cash access is central to your finances, consider pairing Wio’s digital tools with a traditional UAE bank that offers branches and its own ATM network.
