The FAB ATM withdrawal limit depends on the debit card and account attached to it. For most personal current and savings customers, First Abu Dhabi Bank currently publishes a daily cash limit of AED 15,000 for its Standard debit card and AED 20,000 for its Platinum debit card. FAB One also publishes AED 20,000.
This guide covers personal debit cards, not credit-card cash advances or government prepaid cards. Those products have different limits and charges. If you are choosing between FAB accounts rather than troubleshooting a withdrawal, read our independent FAB review for expats or the dedicated FAB One account guide.
Last checked: 29 September 2026. FAB can change card limits and fees, and the limit displayed in FAB Mobile for your individual card is the practical authority. The current account page, your Key Facts Statement and the final tariff shown by FAB take precedence.
FAB ATM withdrawal limits by debit card
| FAB card or account | Published daily ATM cash limit | Published daily retail purchase limit |
|---|---|---|
| FAB Standard debit card | AED 15,000 | AED 20,000 |
| FAB Platinum debit card | AED 20,000 | AED 40,000 |
| FAB One Platinum Mastercard debit card | AED 20,000 | AED 40,000 |
| FAB Elite debit card | Check the limit shown for your card | Check the limit shown for your card |
FAB publishes the Standard and Platinum figures on both its personal current account and personal savings account pages. FAB One separately publishes the same AED 20,000 ATM limit and AED 40,000 retail limit for its included Platinum Mastercard debit card.
Your personal limit can be lower than the product maximum if you set a spending control, if FAB applies a security restriction or if the machine itself has a smaller per-transaction ceiling. A published daily limit is therefore not a promise that one ATM will dispense that amount in a single operation.
Daily limit versus per-transaction ATM limit
The daily FAB limit is the maximum total cash that your card can normally withdraw across the day. A separate ATM transaction limit is the maximum the machine will dispense in one attempt. The second limit belongs to the ATM operator and may be much lower.
For example, a Platinum card may have AED 20,000 available for the day, while a particular machine allows only AED 5,000 in one withdrawal. Four successful AED 5,000 withdrawals could use the full daily allowance, subject to cash availability and fraud controls. If you use a non-FAB machine, each transaction can attract a separate fee, so splitting a withdrawal may cost more.
The limit is also different from:
- your bank-account balance;
- your debit-card retail purchase limit;
- your online or mobile transfer limit;
- the available cash inside a particular ATM; and
- a credit-card cash-advance limit.
If the goal is to send a large amount rather than physically carry it, a bank transfer is usually safer. Our FAB international transfer guide explains FAB’s transfer routes, limits and charges. For rent, also check whether the landlord accepts transfer instead of cash; the Dubai renting budget guide explains the wider move-in costs.
FAB ATM withdrawal fees in 2026
FAB’s Service & Price Guide, updated in July 2026, lists the following maximum personal debit-card charges. The guide states that the displayed charges include VAT where applicable.
| Withdrawal location | FAB charge per transaction | What else may apply |
|---|---|---|
| FAB ATM | Free | No FAB withdrawal fee |
| Another bank’s ATM in the UAE | AED 2.10 | Repeated transactions each attract a fee |
| Another bank’s ATM in the GCC | AED 6.30 | Currency conversion if the account and cash currencies differ |
| International ATM outside the GCC | AED 21 | 2.1% international processing fee, card-scheme charges and possible ATM-owner fee |
Balance checks can also cost money away from FAB. The same guide lists balance enquiries as free at FAB ATMs, AED 1.05 at another UAE bank’s ATM and AED 3.15 at another GCC bank’s ATM. Checking your balance in FAB Mobile avoids that enquiry fee.
Do FAB One customers get free non-FAB withdrawals?
FAB One’s product page advertises four free cash withdrawals from any ATM in the UAE. That benefit is more generous than the standard tariff, but it is account-specific and should not be assumed for every FAB current or savings account. Once the included allowance has been used, check the account tariff before making more non-FAB withdrawals.
Are credit-card withdrawals the same?
No. Withdrawing cash on a FAB credit card is a cash advance, not a debit-card withdrawal. FAB’s July 2026 price guide lists a cash-advance fee of 3.15% of the cash obtained, with a minimum of AED 157.50 per transaction for selected cards, plus interest under the card’s terms. A debit card takes money you already hold; a credit-card cash advance is borrowing and is generally much more expensive.
Using a FAB debit card abroad
An overseas withdrawal can combine several costs:
- FAB’s AED 21 international ATM fee;
- FAB’s 2.1% international transaction processing fee;
- Visa or Mastercard scheme charges and their exchange rate; and
- a surcharge imposed by the overseas ATM owner.
FAB explains that foreign-currency purchases and ATM cash withdrawals are converted to dirhams by Visa or Mastercard using the applicable rate on the conversion date. The AED amount debited can therefore differ from a rough spot-rate calculation made when you take out the cash.
Always choose the local currency
If an overseas ATM offers to convert the transaction into AED, choose the local currency instead. The AED option is dynamic currency conversion, where the ATM operator sets the conversion rate. That rate can be materially worse, and it does not necessarily remove FAB’s own fees.
Prepare the card before travelling
FAB Mobile includes travel alerts and card controls. Before departure:
- make sure international transactions and cash withdrawals are enabled;
- add the travel alert if the feature is available for the card;
- check the daily limit and your available balance;
- carry a second payment method rather than relying on one card; and
- use an ATM attached to a recognised bank where possible.
FAB Elite advertises four free overseas ATM withdrawals per month, but that is a segment benefit rather than a general FAB entitlement. Verify your own package before travelling.
How to check and control cash withdrawals in FAB Mobile
FAB says its mobile security controls are available for both debit and credit cards under Cards > Settings. Customers can enable or disable cash-withdrawal transactions, set daily spending limits, create travel alerts, freeze a card and request a replacement.
- Open FAB Mobile and select the relevant debit card.
- Open the card’s settings or security controls.
- Confirm that cash withdrawals are enabled.
- Review the displayed daily limit or any lower limit you previously set.
- If travelling, enable international use and add the travel alert.
A self-selected control can reduce the amount you can withdraw. It does not necessarily let you increase the card above FAB’s product maximum. If you need more than the published limit, contact FAB rather than repeatedly retrying the ATM.
Why a FAB ATM withdrawal may be declined
1. You reached a card or self-set daily limit
Previous withdrawals count toward the daily total. Also check whether you set a lower amount in the app. A declined attempt does not prove that the machine is faulty.
2. The ATM has a lower transaction ceiling
Try a smaller amount, particularly overseas. If a non-FAB ATM charges per transaction, weigh the extra fee before splitting the withdrawal.
3. Cash withdrawals or international use are disabled
Card controls can block ATM cash while leaving retail transactions active. Check the card settings before trying again.
4. The available balance is lower than the account balance
Pending card payments, holds and scheduled debits can reduce the amount available. Leave room for any ATM and foreign-exchange fees.
5. The ATM cannot dispense the requested notes
AED 4,900 may work when AED 5,000 fails if the machine has limited denominations or cash. An empty cassette can also cause a decline despite a healthy account balance.
6. FAB’s fraud controls stopped the transaction
An unusual location, amount or sequence of attempts can trigger protection. Do not keep entering the PIN or repeating the same transaction. Check app notifications and contact FAB through the number shown in the app or on the back of the card.
7. The card or PIN needs attention
An expired, frozen, damaged or blocked card will not work normally. FAB Mobile lets customers freeze or unfreeze cards, and permanently block and replace a compromised card.
How to withdraw a large amount safely
Large cash withdrawals deserve more planning than an ordinary ATM visit. Before relying on the maximum:
- confirm the exact limit attached to your card in FAB Mobile;
- use a FAB ATM to avoid the non-FAB transaction fee;
- prefer an ATM at a branch or secure indoor location;
- withdraw during daylight and put the cash away before leaving;
- avoid telling others when and where you will collect it; and
- ask whether a bank transfer, manager’s cheque or branch service is safer.
For unusually large cash needs, contact FAB first. A branch may require notice, identification or another process, and counter access is not a way to bypass compliance or account controls. If you are paying a rental deposit, document the payment and obtain a signed receipt. Our guides to Ejari and Dubai tenant rights explain why a clean payment trail matters.
FAB versus Wio for ATM access
Both banks publish a high daily cash ceiling, but the practical experience differs. FAB has its own physical ATM and branch network, while Wio is app-first and relies on other ATM networks. Wio currently publishes a daily maximum of AED 20,000, but the operator’s transaction limit still applies.
| Feature | FAB | Wio Personal |
|---|---|---|
| Published daily limit | AED 15,000 Standard; AED 20,000 Platinum | Up to AED 20,000 |
| Own ATM network | Yes | No traditional proprietary ATM network |
| Best fit | Regular cash access and traditional banking | Mostly digital banking with occasional cash withdrawals |

Frequently asked questions
What is the FAB ATM withdrawal limit per day?
FAB publishes AED 15,000 per day for the Standard debit card and AED 20,000 for the Platinum debit card. FAB One also publishes AED 20,000. Other premium and prepaid products can have different limits.
How much can I withdraw from a FAB ATM in one transaction?
FAB’s public personal-account pages state daily card limits, not a universal per-transaction amount. The ATM can impose a lower ceiling based on the machine, available denominations and cash stock.
Does FAB charge for ATM withdrawals?
FAB ATM withdrawals are free for personal debit cards. The July 2026 tariff lists AED 2.10 at another UAE bank’s ATM, AED 6.30 at another GCC bank’s ATM and AED 21 at an international ATM. Account-specific free allowances may apply.
Can I change the FAB withdrawal limit in the app?
FAB Mobile offers card controls and daily spending limits under Cards > Settings. You can use controls to reduce exposure or disable cash withdrawals. Raising the card above its product maximum may require FAB approval and may not be available.
Why can I not withdraw AED 20,000 at once?
The AED 20,000 figure is a daily Platinum-card limit, not a guarantee that a single machine will dispense AED 20,000 in one transaction. The ATM’s own ceiling, available notes and fraud controls may require a smaller amount.
What is the FAB One withdrawal limit?
FAB One’s official page publishes an AED 20,000 ATM cash-withdrawal limit and AED 40,000 retail purchase limit for its Platinum Mastercard debit card. It also advertises four free withdrawals from any UAE ATM.
Should I use a FAB debit or credit card for cash?
Use a debit card when you need cash from money already in your account. A credit-card withdrawal is a cash advance with a much higher fee and interest implications.
